Former AEW World Champion Shares Thoughts on John Cena’s Retirement Tour

AEW has witnessed several former WWE stars, such as CM Punk, Jon Moxley, and Chris Jericho, capture the world title over the years. Chris Jericho, a former AEW world champion himself, has recently shared his thoughts on John Cena’s retirement. Unlike CM Punk and Jon Moxley, who have held the AEW World title multiple times, Jericho has held it only once.

Chris Jericho and John Cena have competed against each other multiple times in their careers. Fans may remember their rivalry from 2005, when Jericho challenged for the WWE title at SummerSlam. They also had a rivalry in 2008, when Cena returned from injury to challenge Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship at the Survivor Series, marking Cena’s first World Heavyweight Championship victory.

Both stars, with legendary careers spanning decades and multiple accolades, recently saw John Cena announce his retirement from WWE in-ring competition in 2025 at Money in the Bank. Furthermore, Cena will embark on a year-long farewell tour starting in January and ending in December.

Chris Jericho reflects on John Cena’s retirement & their careers

Former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho recently shared his thoughts on John Cena announcing his retirement. Jericho appeared on McGuire on Wrestling, where he mentioned that his own career has already surpassed Cena’s in length. He expressed admiration for Cena’s deep love for wrestling and strong connection with fans.

He stated, “My career is already longer than John Cena’s. No, I mean it’s great. John’s always had a great love for wrestling and he’s got a great connection with the fans so I think it’s a cool way to go about it. People know that this is it and John’s not the type of guy to say anything lightly so I’m sure he’s been focused on this and working with the company to make sure it’s right and and I’m sure it’s gonna be a really great year-and-a-half for Cena fans and for John Cena himself.”

While Chris Jericho continues to thrive at the age of 53 in All Elite Wrestling, John Cena has decided to retire from in-ring competition by the end of 2025.
